Manual Water Operative

Day-to-day tasks

• Safe excavation to lay, joint, backfill and reinstate for new water mains and services
• Disinfection of water mains and hygiene procedures
• Installation of new services and repairing or renewing existing services
• Renewal of / repairing burst water mains
• Repairing water mains, valves, hydrants, stop-taps and marker posts
• Routine isolation, draining and re-charging mains
• Investigation, detection, and prevention of wastewater
• Flushing water mains

Skills and knowledge

• Awareness of and compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and Industry standards
• Team player / collaborative working and knowledge sharing
• Have basic literacy and able to complete forms and describe tasks in writing
• Be organised and reliable
• Be familiar with working with Risk Assessments
• Experience of groundwork
• In good physical health and confident working safely in confined spaces
• Possess a good geographical knowledge of the Island
• Working safely with excavation and civil works
