Job Purpose: Support the maintenance and upkeep of the prison estate through groundskeeping, painting and decorating duties, while helping to supervise prisoners in a safe, professional and respectful way. You will also help maintain security, health and safety standards, and support prisoners in developing practical work skills.  

Duties  
- Carry out painting, decorating and general maintenance work across the prison estate.
- Complete high priority maintenance jobs quickly and safely.
- Escort contractors around the site when required.
- Carry out repairs and report maintenance issues.
- Monitor stock levels of tools, paint and materials.
- Support and supervise prisoners working within the department.
- Teach prisoners practical trade and groundskeeping skills.
- Carry out tool checks and report missing items immediately.
- Help maintain prison security by carrying out searches when needed.
- Follow all prison policies, Governor’s Orders and health & safety procedures.
- Use PPE correctly and attend mandatory training sessions.
- Complete records and reports when required.
- Work flexibly and carry out other duties requested by management.

Essential Skills
- Horticulture experience and qualifications.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Calm and professional under pressure.
- Reliable, self-motivated and flexible.
- Able to work independently when needed.
- Good interpersonal skills and a common-sense approach.
- Physically fit and able to carry out practical work.
- Willingness to learn and undertake training.
- Able to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
- Full and valid driving licence.
- Satisfactory police check.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and learning new systems.
- Ability to maintain professional relationships and follow procedures.

Desirable skills
- Experience working in facilities management.
- Experience supporting people in stressful situations.
- Awareness of relevant legislation and regulations.
- Problem-solving skills and decision-making ability.
- Ability to encourage positive change and motivate others.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
