Works Operational Support - DOHA-024279

Job Purpose: You will carry out painting, decorating and general maintenance across the prison, while supervising and supporting prisoners in their work and keeping the environment safe and secure.    

Duties    
- Carry out painting, decorating and general maintenance tasks across the site
- Complete urgent repairs quickly and safely
- Support and supervise prisoners during work activities
- Teach basic trade skills and encourage positive work habits
- Manage stock of materials and report when supplies are low
- Escort contractors and ensure they follow site rules
- Carry out tool checks and keep equipment secure
- Search work areas, vehicles and prisoners when required
- Follow health & safety rules and use PPE correctly
- Report any risks, issues or concerns to your manager
- Keep records and complete reports as needed
- Promote a safe, respectful and positive environment for everyone

Essential Skills  
- Horticulture experience and/or relevant qualifications
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Able to work well in a team
- Good organisation skills
- Calm under pressure and able to handle challenging situations
- Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
- Physically able to carry out practical work
- Reliable, motivated and able to work independently
- Strong people skills and ability to build positive relationships
- Flexible and willing to learn
- Able to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
- Full driving licence
- Able to pass a police check

Desirable skills  
- Experience in facilities or maintenance work
- Experience working with people in challenging or stressful situations
- Awareness of relevant regulations or safety standards
- Problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions
- Confidence in supporting and motivating others
- Isle of Man worker status
