Job Purpose: To help maintain a safe, clean and tidy environment for patients, staff and visitors at Noble’s Hospital by collecting and disposing of waste and linen, carrying out basic cleaning tasks, and supporting the wider Hotel Services team.
Duties
- Collect used linen from wards and departments and deliver it to the Laundry to agreed schedules.
- Collect, segregate and dispose of clinical waste safely into designated bins for incineration.
- Collect general waste and operate the on-site waste compactor in line with procedures.
- Collect cardboard and other recyclable materials and place them in the correct recycling receptacles.
- Keep the areas around compactors clean and tidy to maintain a safe working environment.
- Clean internal and external parts of vehicles used for waste and linen movement on a regular basis.
- Clean external glass to an agreed schedule and respond to ad-hoc requests.
- Inspect disposal holds and report when floors or areas require cleaning.
- Complete all mandatory and regulatory training and attend relevant in-service training.
- Carry out vehicle checks before driving, complete required paperwork and report any defects promptly.
- Keep all equipment, including collection bins, tugs and cleaning tools, in good working order and stored safely when not in use.
- Report equipment faults, environmental issues, accidents, incidents, near misses and security concerns without delay.
- Wear ID badge and uniform correctly, follow infection prevention and control and health and safety policies, and use appropriate PPE.
- Communicate daily with the Portering and Security Manager and suggest improvements to services and procedures.
- Maintain a professional, helpful and courteous manner with patients, staff and visitors, promoting confidence in the service.
- Support other areas of Logistics and Hotel Services as needed, including during busy periods or staff shortages.
- Follow policies on equality and diversity, confidentiality, safeguarding and information governance at all times.
Essential Skills
- Willingness to undertake all required training.
- Willing to work a five-day week on an alternating shift pattern and rota that includes bank holidays.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable skills
- Previous experience of hospital work.
- Experience working within a healthcare setting.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
