With another busy year ahead, we would love to welcome new volunteers to join our team at the Home of Rest for Old Horses.Â
Whether handsâon outdoor work, helping with animals, supporting families during events, or gaining experience in hospitality or retail, there is lots of opportunities.
When We Are Closed - Help Behind the Scenes
During our closed periods, volunteers are invaluable in helping us care for and maintain the site. Tasks may include:
- Power washing and general maintenance
- Mowing and gardening
- Mucking out stables
- Painting and DIY
- Fixing fences
- Cleaning animal areas
- Preparing feeds
- Seasonal grooming of donkeys and horses (especially during spring moulting)
- Caring for chickens and goats
PropâMaking & Creative Support - Yes, we really do have to start early!
Throughout the year we create themed props and decorations for our major events, and we would love help from anyone who enjoys crafting, building, painting, or creative projects. This includes:
- Easter props and decorations
- Halloween sets and spooky displays
- Unicorn & Dinosaur Day props
- Christmas decorations, grotto pieces, and festive displays
When We Are Open â Support Our Visitors and Animals
Once the site opens, there are many ways to get involved with our dayâtoâday activities:
- We can offer Oneâtoâone training in the gift shop â may include the online shop
- Helping in the cafĂŠ: till work, washing up, andâif youâre here regularlyâbarista or foodâprep training
- Cleaning and general site support
- Assisting with childrenâs craft sessions
- Helping at events, manning stalls, or dressing up for themed days
- Supporting childrenâs parties
- Working in animal care, including mucking out, grooming, and feeding

December 11â21: Christmas lights, Santa, games & celebrations
