🐴  Volunteers  🐴

With another busy year ahead, we would love to welcome new volunteers to join our team at the Home of Rest for Old Horses.

Whether hands‑on outdoor work, helping with animals, supporting families during events, or gaining experience in hospitality or retail, there is lots of opportunities.

When We Are Closed - Help Behind the Scenes

During our closed periods, volunteers are invaluable in helping us care for and maintain the site. Tasks may include:
- Power washing and general maintenance
- Mowing and gardening
- Mucking out stables
- Painting and DIY
- Fixing fences
- Cleaning animal areas
- Preparing feeds
- Seasonal grooming of donkeys and horses (especially during spring moulting)
- Caring for chickens and goats

Prop‑Making & Creative Support - Yes, we really do have to start early!

Throughout the year we create themed props and decorations for our major events, and we would love help from anyone who enjoys crafting, building, painting, or creative projects. This includes:
- Easter props and decorations
- Halloween sets and spooky displays
- Unicorn & Dinosaur Day props
- Christmas decorations, grotto pieces, and festive displays

When We Are Open – Support Our Visitors and Animals

Once the site opens, there are many ways to get involved with our day‑to‑day activities:
- We can offer One‑to‑one training in the gift shop – may include the online shop
- Helping in the café: till work, washing up, and—if you’re here regularly—barista or food‑prep training
- Cleaning and general site support
- Assisting with children’s craft sessions
- Helping at events, manning stalls, or dressing up for themed days
- Supporting children’s parties
- Working in animal care, including mucking out, grooming, and feeding
