Job Purpose: To teach and promote the Manx language, delivering engaging lessons to pupils across primary and secondary schools while supporting their progress, confidence and enjoyment of learning.
Duties
- Plan and deliver fun, high-quality Manx language lessons for pupils (Key Stage 2–5).
- Teach both small groups and full classes across different schools.
- Create and adapt learning resources to suit different abilities.
- Track pupil progress and keep accurate records.
- Support pupils’ wellbeing, safety and positive behaviour.
- Use a variety of teaching methods to keep lessons interesting and inclusive.
- Work closely with teachers and staff in partner schools.
- Build positive relationships with parents and provide feedback on progress.
- Promote independent learning and a love of languages.
- Act as a positive role model for pupils.
- Keep up to date with new teaching approaches and training.
- Support and promote the Manx language across the Island.
- Follow safeguarding, school policies and professional standards at all times.
Essential Skills
- Fluent in Manx and able to teach it confidently to a high level.
- Experience teaching primary and/or secondary pupils.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to build rapport with young people.
- Able to adapt teaching for different learning styles and needs.
- Understanding of assessment and how to track progress.
- Organised, calm under pressure and able to work independently.
- Team player who can work across multiple schools.
- Positive, enthusiastic and supportive approach to all pupils.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing.
- Good ICT skills for teaching and learning.
- Willingness to promote and support Manx language and culture.
Desirable Skills
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS).
- Degree (or equivalent qualification).
- Experience teaching Manx or other languages.
- Experience working across both primary and secondary settings.
- Knowledge of different teaching methods for language learning.
- Experience supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Understanding of Manx culture and education system.
