Job Purpose: Provide excellent customer service by processing Social Security claims and payments accurately, supporting customers with enquiries and helping ensure benefit applications are assessed fairly and efficiently.
Duties
- Assess new benefit claims and review entitlement in line with legislation and procedures.
- Calculate benefit payments, adjustments and arrears accurately.
- Process, amend and generate benefit payments.
- Check and verify information and evidence submitted in support of claims.
- Request additional information where required and notify customers of claim decisions.
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic records.
- Provide support and guidance to customers at the public counter and during face-to-face appointments.
- Respond to enquiries from members of the public and other organisations.
- Produce statistical information and support the testing of Key Task Instructions (KTIs).
- Participate in team meetings, one-to-one meetings and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide cover for colleagues and carry out additional duties to support the team.
- Follow data protection, confidentiality, health and safety and Government procedures at all times.
Essential Skills
- Previous customer service experience.
- Experience dealing with people in difficult or sensitive situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills
- Five GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including English Language, or equivalent.
- Experience working in a busy office environment.
- Experience in an accounts or finance-related role.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Logical and analytical approach to work.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
