Job Purpose: Support older people at Southlands with a range of complex needs, helping them maintain as much independence as possible while enjoying a good quality of life. You will provide person-centred care, practical assistance and emotional support while respecting each resident's dignity, choices and individual needs.
Duties
- Provide care and support based on each resident's individual support and care plan.
- Encourage residents to maintain their independence by supporting them to do as much as possible for themselves.
- Assist with personal care, hygiene and continence needs.
- Support residents with daily living tasks including food preparation, light housework and shopping.
- Support meal planning and individual dietary requirements.
- Monitor residents' health and wellbeing and report any significant changes.
- Act as a key worker for allocated residents.
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic care records.
- Support the safe administration of medication in line with procedures.
- Carry out agreed care tasks such as basic dressings, catheter or stoma care, blood sugar checks and pressure care following appropriate training.
- Support residents with finances where required.
- Carry out basic risk assessments and promote positive risk-taking.
- Help arrange hospital and clinic appointments and transport.
- Escort residents to appointments when required.
- Organise and support recreational and social activities.
- Encourage residents to take part in community activities and make their own choices.
- Work with families, carers and other professionals to support residents.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Attend meetings, supervision, appraisals and required training.
- Work flexibly on a rota including days, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and care procedures.
Essential Skills
- Commitment to completing the Care Certificate if other relevant qualifications have not been achieved.
- Commitment to achieving RQF Level 2 in Health and Social Care if not already attained.
- Good written and spoken English communication skills.
- Good IT skills, including Word and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and deal with emergencies.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Understanding of positive risk-taking.
- Positive approach to change.
- Honest, reliable and professional approach.
- Commitment to training and development.

Desirable Skills
- NVQ/RQF Level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care.
- First Aid qualification.
- Safer People Moving and Handling training.
- Dementia Awareness training.
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience supporting vulnerable or older people in a residential setting.
- Experience supporting older people with complex needs such as dementia, diabetes or stroke.
- Experience organising recreational activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with families and other professionals.
- Full, valid driving licence.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
