Job Purpose: Support residents living with dementia by delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a friendly and homely environment. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote independence, dignity, choice, and wellbeing while ensuring residents receive safe and compassionate care.
Duties
- Support residents to make informed choices about their care and daily lives.
- Deliver personal care in a respectful, person-centred way that promotes independence and dignity.
- Plan and organise recreational activities that improve residents' quality of life.
- Write, review, and update care plans, recording any changes in residents' needs.
- Carry out risk assessments and help maintain a safe environment for residents.
- Act as a keyworker, supporting individual residents and their care needs.
- Assist residents at mealtimes, including serving meals and helping with eating where required.
- Recognise changes in residents' health and take appropriate action when necessary.
- Support residents with daily living activities and encourage participation.
- Administer medication safely following training and organisational procedures.
- Escort residents to appointments and community activities.
- Carry out laundry and housekeeping duties when required.
- Maintain accurate records using electronic systems.
- Attend meetings, supervision sessions, and mandatory training.
- Follow health and safety, confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding procedures at all times.
Essential Skills
- Willingness to undertake an RQF Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care within the required timescale.
- Commitment to planning and reviewing recreational activities.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
- Good numeracy skills.
- Ability to use IT systems and electronic care records.
- Understanding of health and safety and risk management.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to use own initiative.
- Resilient and calm under pressure.
- Commitment to the Manx Care CARE values.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to the role.
- Ability to travel to different locations across the Island.
- Flexible approach to shift work, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
- RQF/QCF Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
- Experience working with vulnerable people, ideally in a dementia care setting.
- Experience supporting people living with dementia.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
