Job Purpose: Provide an exceptional retail experience to visitors at Manx National Heritage sites. Support retail operations, visitor engagement, admissions, donations, and online sales while helping achieve income targets and delivering outstanding customer service.
Duties
- Provide an engaging retail experience for all visitors.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to individuals and tour groups.
- Promote Manx National Heritage, its sites, and charitable work.
- Support retail sales, admission sales, and donation targets.
- Assist with the efficient running of the museum shop, including opening and closing procedures.
- Process payments and transactions accurately using till and EPOS systems.
- Support the online shop by processing and fulfilling orders.
- Maintain retail displays and visual merchandising standards.
- Upsell products and services using product knowledge.
- Follow cash handling, banking, and financial procedures.
- Assist with site security and visitor safety checks.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping.
- Complete day-to-day tasks proactively and efficiently.
- Assist with preparing sites for seasonal opening and closing.
- Work flexibly across Manx National Heritage sites when required.
- Take responsibility for personal learning, development, and mandatory training.
- Respect and care for the historic environment.
Essential Skills
- 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English Language and Maths, or equivalent.
- Experience working in a retail sales or customer-facing environment.
- Experience of working with EPOS and online retail systems.
- Experience of generating income through sales or donations.
- Numeracy skills with good accuracy and attention to detail.
- Sound IT skills and ability to carry out accurate computer inputting.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Self-motivated, hardworking, and enthusiastic.
- Positive and proactive attitude.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Calm and focused under normal work pressures.
- Co-operative and responsive approach to colleagues and visitors.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Flexible with working hours and location as required.
- Physically able to carry out the role, including lifting, carrying, moving boxes, and using steps and stairs.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with electronic stock management systems and databases.
- Ability to work independently using own initiative.
- Experience of till operation and cash handling procedures.
- Own vehicle available for work use.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
