Job Purpose: Help children and other pedestrians cross the road safely at a designated school crossing point, making sure traffic is stopped and managed during set times.
Duties
- Stop traffic safely using the correct procedures so people can cross the road.
- Help children cross safely and make sure they follow instructions.
- Manage traffic flow to reduce congestion around the crossing area.
- Follow all safety rules, policies and the School Crossing Patrol guidelines.
- Wear and look after uniform and equipment provided.
- Report any accidents, issues or concerns to your supervisor.
- Check signs, lights and equipment are working properly and report faults.
- Set up cones or use grit in icy conditions when needed.
- Complete simple reports or forms if incidents happen.

- Good awareness and attention to safety.
- Ability to judge safe gaps in traffic.
- Reliable, punctual and responsible.
- Able to follow rules and work independently after training.
- Physically able to stand, move quickly and work outdoors in all weather.
- Able to stay alert and react quickly to keep people safe.
- Basic ability to complete simple forms or reports.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with children or the public.
- Friendly and able to build good relationships with the community.
- Basic computer skills (or willingness to learn).
