Job Purpose: To help keep Manor Park Primary School clean, safe and tidy by working as part of the cleaning team and making sure high standards of hygiene are maintained across the school.
Duties
- Clean assigned areas of the school, including sweeping, washing, vacuuming, dusting, polishing and tidying.
- Clean toilets, showers, fittings, windows and door glass.
- Empty litter bins and remove waste safely.
- Use cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, polishing machines, scrubbing machines and carpet shampooers.
- Follow health and safety guidance, including safe use and storage of cleaning products and awareness of COSHH.
- Report accidents, hygiene concerns, safety issues and maintenance faults to the right person.
- Help with opening or closing the site when needed and support site security.
- Help move furniture or equipment when required.
- Provide cover for other team members when needed and support the team with other tasks suitable for the role.
- Work positively with colleagues, keep information confidential and help create a safe environment for children and young people.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience in a cleaning role.
- Experience using different types of cleaning machinery and cleaning equipment after use.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues, children and parents.
- Able to achieve high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and training.
- Reliable, flexible and able to take pride in doing a good job.
- Understands the importance of fairness, teamwork, confidentiality and being a positive role model in a school.
- Physically able to carry out the role, including standing, walking, scrubbing, lifting and carrying.
- Able to work with a range of cleaning materials, including chemicals.
Desirable skills
- First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge of health and safety, cleanliness standards and COSHH.
- Able to decide which areas need priority cleaning and what materials or equipment to use.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
