Purpose of the Role: To support teachers and pupils across Island schools, helping pupils access learning and providing general classroom assistance. Duties vary depending on the level.
Key Duties (Level 2 & 3):
- Support pupils (including those with additional needs) in and out of class
- Assist with learning activities and classroom management
- Help develop and implement Education/Behaviour Plans
- Use ICT and learning resources to support lessons
- Provide feedback to teachers and pupils
- Promote inclusion, positive behaviour and pupil independence
- Support pupils during lunch, breaks, trips, and out-of-school activities
- Comply with safeguarding and school policies
Additional Level 3 Responsibilities:
- Lead learning activities under teacher guidance
- Work with pupils requiring specialist support
- Assist in lesson planning and record-keeping
- Occasionally supervise whole classes in a teacher’s short-term absence
- Contribute to staff training and support
- Liaise with external professionals and attend review meetings
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Level 2:
- GCSE Maths & English (A*-C) or equivalent (Functional Skills Level 2)
- Experience working with children/young people
Level 3:
As above, plus:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Teaching Assistance/Childcare
- More in-depth experience with relevant age groups
- Knowledge of child development and curriculum delivery
Desirable Skills
Level 2:
- Teaching Assistant Induction Programme
- NVQ Level 2 or similar
- First Aid training
- Basic knowledge of learning strategies (e.g. literacy support)
Level 3:
- Training in specific support areas (e.g. SEN, ICT, sign language)
- Experience in administering and marking pupil work
- Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation

ESO - £14.29-£17.24 per hour / SESO - £18.70 - £21.85 per hour + additional 8.33% rolled up holiday pay
