Job Purpose: Support the Public Record Office by helping people access historical records, keeping archives organised and preserved, and providing day-to-day admin and customer support.  

Duties  
- Answer emails, phone calls and in-person enquiries about records and research
- Help visitors in the reading room find and use archive materials
- Search records and provide clear results to customers
- Assist with organising, listing and storing records accurately
- Clean, preserve and protect historical documents
- Input data into systems (e.g. databases, Word, Excel)
- Retrieve and return records efficiently, meeting deadlines
- Provide general admin support (filing, banking, stock checks)
- Support outreach activities like events, tours and social media
- Help maintain building security, including opening/closing sites
- Monitor storage conditions and report any issues
- Move and handle records safely (including boxes and archives)
- Work with team members, volunteers and external partners

Essential Skills
- Experience working with the public
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Good IT skills (e.g. Word, Excel, databases)
- Good literacy and numeracy
- Ability to research and find information
- Organised with good time management
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Professional and reliable approach to work
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Able to manage workload, multitask and adapt to change
- Friendly, confident and motivated
- Maintains confidentiality and acts with integrity
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Physically able to lift boxes and work in archive environments
- Willing to be a key holder and work out-of-hours if needed

Desirable Skills
- Previous office experience, including filing systems
- Experience working in archives or records management
- Experience working in a small team
- Experience using databases
- Knowledge of Manx history
- Understanding of how government works
- Isle of Man Worker status
