Job Purpose: To provide technical and administrative support within the Planning and Building Control Directorate, ensuring accurate processing of applications, appeals and searches, while delivering excellent customer service across all communication channels.
Duties
- Receive, check and validate planning and building control applications, ensuring completeness and accuracy before entry to the electronic system.
- Manage supporting documents, fees, and application references, ensuring GDPR compliance.
- Prepare and publish weekly planning lists and manage related communication lists.
- Process planning appeals and communicate with other authorities and the Cabinet Office.
- Carry out planning and building control searches for advocates and legal conveyancing.
- Handle customer enquiries in person, by phone and email, including payment processing and post distribution.
- Maintain accurate records of scanned and archived files, ensuring secure transfer to Public Records.
- Support colleagues across the directorate and assist with other administrative duties as required.
Essential Skills
- Team working and ability to build strong working relationships.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and online systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Customer-focused with a professional approach.
Desirable Skills
- 5 GCSEs at Grade C (4) or above including English Language.
- Experience working in an office or public service environment.
- Knowledge of Isle of Man planning and building control processes.
- Ability to read and interpret scaled plans or drawings.
- Accurate keyboard and data entry skills.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
