Job Purpose: To travel to different primary school kitchens when there is a staff shortage and help prepare, cook and serve school meals. The role supports kitchen teams with food preparation, serving pupils, cleaning, and making sure the kitchen runs smoothly during busy lunch services.
Duties
- Travel to different primary school kitchens to provide cover where needed.
- Help prepare, cook and serve school meals following menu plans and portion sizes.
- Assist with checking food deliveries and storing ingredients correctly.
- Follow stock rotation and food safety procedures to reduce waste and contamination.
- Support pupils in a friendly way and encourage them to try a variety of foods.
- Help set up the dining area including tables, chairs and serving stations.
- Serve meals and support any special dietary or medical food requirements.
- Help complete records such as stock, temperatures, meal numbers and waste logs.
- Wash up crockery, cutlery, utensils and kitchen equipment by hand or machine.
- Clean the kitchen, dining area and equipment, including deep cleaning when required.
- Move furniture, sweep floors and keep dining areas tidy after meals.
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety and safeguarding procedures.
- Wear the provided uniform and safety shoes while working.
- Report any equipment faults or safety issues to the manager.
- Attend training sessions and meetings when required.
- Work flexibly and support the team with other tasks appropriate to the role.

- Basic knowledge of nutritional or therapeutic diets.
- Experience working in a medium or large organisation.
- Budget awareness or stock management experience.
- Isle of Man worker status.
