Job Purpose: Help keep Isle of Man Ambulance Service vehicles ready for use by cleaning, decontaminating, restocking and checking ambulances and their equipment. You will also help manage stores, track equipment and provide transport and courier support when required.
Duties
- Clean and decontaminate the inside and outside of ambulances to required infection control standards.
- Restock ambulances with medical equipment and other supplies.
- Check equipment and supplies are in date and correctly stored.
- Carry out safety and function checks on medical and non-medical equipment.
- Check vehicle fuel, AdBlue, screen wash and other consumables.
- Carry out basic vehicle checks and minor repairs where appropriate.
- Move ambulances around sites and between stations when required.
- Arrange vehicles for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
- Maintain ambulance stores and order equipment and consumables when stock is running low.
- Receive, record, store and monitor deliveries and stock.
- Carry out regular stock checks and record missing equipment.
- Maintain accurate manual and electronic records.
- Manage equipment using the asset tracking system.
- Check and maintain stocks of ambulance medicines in line with procedures.
- Clean and test medical equipment following maintenance schedules.
- Safely remove and dispose of clinical waste.
- Use specialist cleaning equipment including pressure washers, steam cleaners and valeting equipment.
- Maintain clean and tidy ambulance stations and working areas.
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, vehicle defects and equipment problems.
- Provide general transport and courier services when required.
- Work independently, organise priorities and prepare vehicles to strict deadlines.
- Work shifts, including nights and weekends.
Essential Skills
- Full valid driving licence with no more than three penalty points.
- Category C1 driving entitlement.
- Willingness to undertake a non-response ambulance driving assessment and vehicle familiarisation training.
- Previous experience driving different types of vehicles.
- Previous experience working in a stores environment.
- Good standard of literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
- Awareness of Microsoft Office products.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to complete basic documentation accurately.
- Ability to follow procedures and work systematically.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision to a high standard.
- Good time management and ability to manage changing priorities.
- Able and willing to travel around ambulance stations and other locations.
- Ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and members of the public.
- Positive, flexible and reliable approach.
- Physically able to carry out a demanding role involving cleaning, lifting, stretching, kneeling and working on your feet for long periods.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
-Category D1 driving licence.
- Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, IOSH or COSHH qualification.
- Previous infection control or cleaning experience involving vehicles or equipment.
- Knowledge or experience of ambulance vehicles and equipment.
- Some knowledge of motor vehicle or medical equipment maintenance.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
