Maintenance Assistant - Nobles Hospital - DOI-025513

Job Purpose: Help maintain and improve Government buildings, equipment and grounds across the Island. You will carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs, work alongside qualified tradespeople and help ensure properties and equipment remain safe and in good working order.   

Duties  
- Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs that do not require a fully qualified tradesperson.
- Assist tradespeople with building, joinery, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work.
- Carry out planned maintenance tasks such as emergency light testing, valve testing and cleaning or changing filters.
- Help tradespeople with isolations, installations, testing and inspections.
- Carry out minor repairs to doors, windows and other parts of buildings.
- Clear gutters and drains and undertake other basic maintenance tasks.
- Use powered hand tools safely and complete relevant training.
- Patrol and attend vacant properties when required.
- Collect and deliver furniture, materials and equipment.
- Help erect and dismantle plant and equipment.
- Take responsibility for the safe use and storage of vehicles, plant, tools and equipment.
- Plan your work to minimise disruption to staff and members of the public.
- Check equipment before use and report any defects.
- Liaise with building managers and tradespeople when required.
- Follow risk assessments, health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
- Work with minimal supervision and use your initiative to complete assigned tasks.
- Work in a range of conditions, which may include outdoors, at height, in confined spaces and in dusty or noisy environments.

Essential Skills
- Knowledge of health and safety relating to plant and equipment.
- Ability to follow risk assessments, health and safety legislation and safe working practices.

Desirable Skills
- Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.
- Asbestos Awareness training or qualification.
- Risk Assessment training or qualification.
- Confined Space training or qualification.
- Significant relevant experience in construction or facilities maintenance.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
