Job Purpose: Support pupils in the Specialist Provision Centre during lunchtime, making sure they are safe, supported and cared for at all times.
Duties
- Supervise pupils in the dining room, SPC and outdoor areas during lunchtime.
- Make sure pupils wash hands and are ready before and after lunch.
- Support positive behaviour and encourage good manners.
- Help pupils eat their meals, including cutting food and opening packets if needed.
- Follow individual feeding or behaviour programmes as directed.
- Support children with special educational needs, including one-to-one support where required.
- Assist with personal care, including toileting and changing where needed.
- Use specialist approaches such as PECs and TEACCH under guidance.
- Complete medical training to support pupils where required (e.g. peg feeding or suction training).
- Promote positive play and help pupils build friendships.
- Deal with minor injuries, record incidents and report concerns.
- Follow health and safety, safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.
- Attend relevant training and meetings when required.
Essential Skills
- Willing to support children with special educational needs, including one-to-one support.
- Willing to assist with feeding and personal care.
- Team player.
- Approachable and calm.
- Able to build positive relationships with children and adults.
- Discreet and able to keep information confidential.
- Willing to complete training and keep skills up to date.
- Common sense approach.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
- Desirable Skills
- Experience working with or caring for primary or secondary school age children.
- Enthusiastic, energetic and positive attitude.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
- Voluntary youth work experience (e.g. Brownies, Scouts).
- Current First Aid certificate.
