Job Purpose: Support students during lunchtime within the Specialist Provision Centre, helping to keep them safe, happy and engaged. This includes supervising activities, encouraging positive behaviour, supporting students with additional needs and assisting with personal care where needed.
Duties
- Supervise students during lunchtime in the dining room, playground and Specialist Provision Centre.
- Encourage good manners, positive behaviour and safe play activities.
- Support students with special educational needs, including one-to-one support where required.
- Help students with eating, opening food packets and feeding programmes when needed.
- Assist with personal care, including toileting and changing where required.
- Follow behaviour support plans and specialist programmes set by the SPC team.
- Work closely with teaching staff and the Specialist Provision Centre team.
- Attend to minor injuries and report accidents or concerns appropriately.
- Help maintain a clean, safe and secure environment for students.
- Use specialist equipment and follow training provided to support students safely.
- Attend relevant training sessions and meetings when required.
- Keep all student information confidential.
Essential Skills
- Ability to support children and young people with special educational needs.
- Willingness to assist with feeding, personal care and hygiene support.
- Team player with a positive and calm attitude.
- Ability to build good relationships with children and adults.
- Approachable, discreet and reliable.
- Willingness to complete training and develop new skills.
- Common sense approach and ability to stay calm in different situations.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with or caring for school-age children.
- Voluntary youth work experience such as Scouts or Brownies.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
