Lunchtime Assistant - SPC - QEII - DOES-023605

Job Purpose: To support learners who remain in school during lunchtime, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and positive behaviour, while providing care and support for children with special educational needs.  

Duties  
- Supervise learners during the lunchtime period, including in dining areas, the Specialist Provision Centre and outdoor spaces.
- Support learners with personal care needs, including feeding, hygiene, toileting and changing where required.
- Encourage positive behaviour, good manners and safe play, following school behaviour policies and individual support plans.
- Assist learners with eating, including cutting food, opening packets and supporting individual eating programmes.
- Promote positive relationships and activities, supporting one-to-one learners or small groups as needed.
- Deal with minor incidents and provide first aid where appropriate, reporting concerns to the SPC Manager.
- Maintain a safe, clean environment and follow health and safety procedures at all times.
- Work closely with SPC staff and teaching staff, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Attend training and meetings as required to keep skills and knowledge up to date.

Essential Skills  
- Experience of working with or caring for children or young people of a relevant age.
- Willingness to provide care and support, including one-to-one support for learners with complex needs.
- Warm, approachable manner with empathy for all learners.
- Ability to remain calm, use common sense and work as part of a team.
- Discretion and understanding of confidentiality.
- Ability to meet the agreed hours of the role and carry out the physical requirements.

Desirable Skills  
- Experience of voluntary youth work (e.g. Brownies, Scouts or similar).
- First Aid training or willingness to undertake training.
- Experience supporting children with special educational needs or challenging behaviour.
