Lunchtime Assistant - SPC - Peel Clothworkers Primary School - DOES-025055

Job Purpose: Support pupils with special educational needs during the lunchtime period, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and enjoyment. Help create a positive, inclusive environment by encouraging good behaviour, supporting play and providing personal care where required.   

Duties  
- Supervise pupils throughout the lunchtime period in the dining room, Specialist Provision Centre and outdoor areas.
- Ensure pupils are safe, secure and well supported at all times.
- Encourage positive behaviour, good manners and appropriate play.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and provide one-to-one or small group support where required.
- Assist pupils with eating, including cutting up food, opening packets and following individual feeding programmes.
- Support pupils with personal care, including toileting and changing where required.
- Follow individual behaviour support plans and specialist programmes such as PECS and TEACCH.
- Undertake medical training and competencies where required, including suction and PEG feeding.
- Attend to minor injuries, administer first aid where appropriate and report accidents.
- Use specialist moving and handling techniques and equipment when required.
- Work closely with the Specialist Provision Centre team and teaching staff.
- Attend meetings and training to keep skills and knowledge up to date.
- Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and school policies at all times.

Essential Skills
- Willingness to provide one-to-one and group support for pupils with special educational needs.
- Willingness to assist with feeding, personal hygiene, toileting and changing.
- Team player.
- Approachable and able to build positive relationships with children and adults.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake training and continue developing skills.
- Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Calm and patient approach.
- Good common sense and sound judgement.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills
- Experience working with or caring for primary or secondary school-aged children.
- Enthusiastic, energetic and positive attitude.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
- Voluntary youth work experience, such as Brownies or Scouts.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
