Job Purpose: To support pupils with special educational needs during the lunchtime period, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and positive behaviour while encouraging independence, social interaction and enjoyable play.  

Duties  
- Supervise pupils during lunchtime in the dining area, SPC and outdoor spaces, ensuring safety and good behaviour.
- Support pupils with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting and hygiene, following individual care plans.
- Encourage positive play, social skills and good manners, building trusting relationships with pupils.
- Assist pupils with eating, including cutting food, opening packets and supporting individual feeding programmes as directed.
- Monitor behaviour and apply agreed behaviour strategies, incentives and boundaries in line with school policies.
- Deal with minor incidents and provide basic first aid, reporting and recording incidents appropriately.
- Work closely with SPC staff and teachers to support pupils consistently and effectively.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding, health and safety and school policies at all times.
- Attend training and meetings as required to keep skills and knowledge up to date.

Essential Skills  
- Willingness to support children with special educational needs on a one-to-one or group basis.
- Willingness to assist with personal care, including feeding, toileting and changing.
- Ability to work calmly and safely with children who may display challenging behaviour.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions from senior staff.
- Approachable, calm and caring attitude with good common sense.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable Skills
- Experience of working with or caring for primary or secondary school-aged children.
- Experience of supporting children with special educational needs or disabilities.
- First Aid training or willingness to undertake training.
- Experience of youth or voluntary work.
