Lunchtime Assistant - SPC - CRHS - DOES-025367

Job Purpose: Support students with special educational needs at Castle Rushen High School’s Specialist Provision Centre during lunchtime. You will help keep students safe and well, while encouraging positive behaviour, play and independence.  

Duties  
- Supervise students throughout the lunchtime period, including in the dining room, Specialist Provision Centre and outdoor areas.
- Provide one-to-one or group support for students with special educational needs.
- Encourage positive play and build good relationships with students.
- Support students with eating, including cutting up food, opening packets and individual feeding programmes.
- Assist with personal care, including toileting and changing when required.
- Encourage good manners and appropriate behaviour.
- Follow individual behaviour programmes where required.
- Follow specialist programmes such as PECS and TEACCH under the direction of the SPC Manager.
- Undertake appropriate medical training, which may include suction and PEG feeding.
- Use specialist moving and handling techniques and equipment when required.
- Deal with minor injuries and seek assistance for more serious incidents.
- Report concerns or difficulties involving students to the Specialist Provision Manager.
- Work closely with Specialist Provision and teaching staff.
- Attend relevant meetings and training.
- Maintain confidentiality about individual students.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school procedures.

Essential Skills
- Willingness to support students with special educational needs individually and in groups.
- Willingness to assist with feeding, personal hygiene, toileting and changing.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Approachable and able to relate well to children and adults.
- Willingness to undertake new and refresher training.
- Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Calm and sensible approach.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills
- Experience working with or caring for primary or secondary school-aged children.
- Enthusiastic, energetic and positive approach.
- Voluntary youth work experience, such as Brownies or Scouts.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
