Lunchtime Assistant - SPC - Bunscoill Rhumsaa - DOES-025040

Job Purpose: Support children in the Specialist Provision Centre at Bunscoill Rhumsaa during lunchtime, making sure they are safe, cared for and able to enjoy their break. You will support children with special educational needs, which may include one-to-one support, personal care, feeding and encouraging positive play and behaviour.  

Duties  
- Supervise and support children throughout the lunchtime period, including in the dining room, Specialist Provision Centre and outdoor areas.
- Encourage good manners, positive behaviour and friendly interaction with others.
- Support children with eating, including cutting up food, opening packets and individual feeding programmes where required.
- Help children with personal care, including toileting and changing when needed.
- Encourage positive play and help children build relationships with others.
- Provide one-to-one or group support for children with special educational needs.
- Follow individual behaviour and support programmes as directed by the Specialist Provision team.
- Use specialist approaches and equipment following appropriate training.
- Undertake medical training where required, which may include suction and enteral PEG-feeding.
- Provide basic first aid for minor injuries and report accidents or concerns appropriately.
- Help keep lunchtime areas clean, tidy and safe.
- Support the safe moving and handling of children with special educational needs where required.
- Work closely with Specialist Provision and teaching staff.
- Maintain confidentiality about individual children.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school behaviour procedures.
- Attend relevant meetings and training when required.

Essential Skills  
- Willingness to support children with special educational needs, individually and in groups.
- Willingness to help with feeding and personal care, including toileting and changing.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Approachable and able to build positive relationships with children and adults.
- Willingness to undertake training and continue developing your skills.
- Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Calm and able to use common sense when dealing with different situations.
- Satisfactory Police Check.

Desirable Skills  
- Previous experience working with or caring for primary or secondary school-age children.
- Enthusiastic, energetic and positive approach.
- Experience of voluntary youth work, such as Brownies or Scouts.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
