Job Purpose: To supervise and support pupils in the dining room and playground during the lunchtime period, promoting safe, positive play, good behaviour and good manners so that children enjoy a healthy, happy and secure break in line with the Island’s Essentials for Learning approach.  

Duties  
- Supervise pupils in the dining room and playground throughout the lunchtime period.
- Encourage pupils to eat their lunch and safely enjoy their break.
- Promote safe, creative and positive play and activities in the playground.
- Encourage pupils to use good manners and follow school rules.
- Deal with incidents calmly and appropriately, providing basic first aid where required.
- Act as a point of contact between pupils and teaching staff, passing on any concerns.
- Maintain child safety and welfare at all times, promoting good behaviour.
- Build caring, positive relationships with pupils and teaching staff.
- Maintain confidentiality about individual pupils.
- Work co-operatively as part of the wider school team, supporting school values of accountability, approachability, professionalism and integrity.

- Enjoy working with children and supporting their wellbeing and safety.
- Caring, kind and approachable nature with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults.
- Ability to promote and join in play with children.
- Willingness to work as part of a team and support teaching staff.
- Ability to encourage good manners, positive behaviour and inclusion in play.
- Ability to remain calm, fair and consistent when dealing with incidents or minor conflicts.
- Respect for confidentiality and honesty in passing on concerns to teaching staff.

Desirable skills
- Experience of working or volunteering with children, ideally in a school or group setting.
- Basic first aid knowledge or willingness to undertake first aid training.
- Understanding of, or interest in, the Isle of Man Essentials for Learning and the 6Rs (readiness, relationships, resourcefulness, resilience, remembering, reflectiveness).
- Interest in developing a career within an educational environment.
