Job Purpose  

To support children with special educational needs during the lunchtime period, ensuring their safety, well-being and positive engagement. This includes providing one-to-one or group support, assisting with feeding, personal care and implementing specialist programmes under the direction of the SPC Manager.  

Duties

General Duties
- Supervise pupils during lunchtime across dining, playground and SPC areas.
- Encourage good manners, promote positive play and support behaviour programmes.
- Assist with eating (cutting food, feeding, teaching of use of utensils).
- Ensure pupils are clean and ready before and after meals.
- Maintain safety, discipline and welfare in line with SPC guidance.
- Co-operate with SPC and teaching staff.
- Keep all pupil information confidential.

Specialist Duties
- Provide one-to-one care including toileting, changing and feeding as required.
- Support specialist programmes such as PECs, TEACCH or individual feeding programmes.
- Undertake medical training (e.g. suction, gastronomy/ PEG feeding) and apply skills as needed.
- Use specialist equipment for toileting, moving and handling.
- Report concerns about pupils to the SPC manager.

Health & Safety
- Administer first aid for minor injuries and seek assistance for serious incidents.
- Log all accidents and injuries.
- Clear accidents or spillages using proper equipment.
- Follow risk assessments and behaviour policies.

Other
- Attend meetings and training sessions.
- Undertake refresher training as required.
- Perform additional duties consistent with the role as directed by the SPC Manager.


Essential Skills & Requirements
- Willingness to provide care and support for pupils, including one-to-one and group support.
- Willingness to assist with feeding, toileting and personal hygiene.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- Team player with warmth, approachability and calm disposition.
- Discreet, with a common-sense approach.
- Commitment to ongoing training and development.
- Ability to relate well to children and adults.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills & Requirements
- Experience working with or caring for children of school age.
- Enthusiasm, energy and optimism.
- Voluntary youth work (e.g. Brownies, Scouts).
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
