Job Purpose: Help provide the catering service at Queen Elizabeth II High School. You will assist with preparing and serving food, helping customers, using the till, washing up and keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean and tidy.
Duties
- Help prepare food, including simple cooking, snacks and main meals.
- Serve meals and provide friendly customer service to pupils and staff.
- Set up food counters, take orders and operate the till.
- Clear tables and keep the dining area clean and tidy.
- Wash dishes, utensils and catering equipment by hand or machine.
- Clean kitchen equipment, work areas, floors and dining areas to a high standard.
- Carry out deeper cleaning when required.
- Follow food hygiene, health and safety and cleaning procedures.
- Help with stock control, stock rotation and putting food deliveries away.
- Check food stocks for damage and use-by dates.
- Report any problems or faults with equipment.
- Work closely with other members of the catering team.
- Attend relevant training, including food hygiene and health and safety training.
Essential Skills
- Customer service experience.
- Cleaning experience.
- Organised, efficient and able to work methodically.
- Good communication skills and able to communicate confidently with staff and students.
- Ability to use cleaning products safely and correctly.
- Willingness and ability to learn how to use a computerised till.
- Ability to complete tasks within required timescales.
- Ability to clean to a high standard.
- Willingness to undertake appropriate training.
- Ability to follow health and safety policies and procedures.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Able to listen to and follow instructions.
- Positive attitude and willingness to use your own initiative.
- Reliable, punctual and able to manage your time well.
- Take pride in your work and support the positive ethos of the school.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
Desirable Skills
- Previous catering, food handling or food preparation experience.
- Catering qualification.
- Food Hygiene qualification.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience cleaning in a catering environment.
- Knowledge of how to use catering equipment safely.
- Awareness of health and safety within a school environment.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
