Job Purpose: To support the smooth running of the hospital by safely moving patients, equipment, supplies and other items around the hospital site. You will help provide a professional, efficient and caring service that supports staff, patients and visitors while maintaining patient privacy, dignity and safety.
Duties
- Move and transport patients safely around the hospital using beds, wheelchairs or trolleys.
- Transfer patients between wards and departments using safe lifting and handling techniques.
- Move equipment, supplies, furniture, parcels, medical gases and other items across the hospital site.
- Collect and deliver pharmacy bags, which may include medication and IV supplies.
- Transport urgent specimens such as blood samples to the Pathology department.
- Move linen, waste and confidential waste to the correct locations.
- Assist with moving deceased patients respectfully to the mortuary and complete required paperwork.
- Clean wheelchairs and trolleys between patient transfers.
- Help with general tasks such as distributing food trolleys, moving furniture and hanging curtains.
- Carry out basic vehicle checks before using hospital vehicles and report any faults.
- Respond to security incidents, emergency situations and hospital alerts when required.
- Use communication devices such as radios or pagers to respond to job requests.
- Report faults, hazards or incidents using the correct reporting procedures.
- Keep work areas such as waste compounds and equipment areas clean and tidy.
- Follow hospital policies including infection control, safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Attend training, team meetings and mandatory learning sessions.

- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Physically able to carry out moving, handling and patient transfer duties.
- Willingness to complete training and continue learning in the role.
- Caring attitude and respectful approach when working with patients and staff.
- Resilient and able to handle challenging situations professionally.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable skills
- Experience working in a hospital environment or healthcare setting.
- Experience delivering customer service in a busy workplace.
- Isle of Man worker status.
