Job Purpose: Support the safe and efficient running of hospital services by transporting patients, equipment, supplies and materials across the site while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining patients’ dignity, privacy and wellbeing.  

Duties  
- Safely transport patients between wards and departments using beds, wheelchairs and trolleys.
- Assist with moving and handling patients using appropriate techniques.
- Move patient belongings, furniture, equipment, medical gases, health records and supplies around the hospital.
- Transport clinical samples, blood specimens, pharmacy items and other essential deliveries.
- Assist with the respectful transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary.
- Carry out security duties and respond to incidents when required.
- Clean and maintain wheelchairs, trolleys and equipment between uses.
- Support waste management by transporting general, clinical and confidential waste and linen.
- Complete vehicle and equipment checks and report faults promptly.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations and major incidents when required.
- Use communication devices such as pagers and radios to respond to requests efficiently.
- Follow infection prevention, health and safety and hospital policies at all times.
- Work flexibly across Manx Care sites if required.

Essential Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with patients and colleagues.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to assist in emergencies and support patient evacuation.
- Physically capable of moving and handling patients, equipment and supplies safely.
- Caring, flexible and compassionate approach.
- Resilient and able to remain calm in difficult situations.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and act with discretion.
- Willingness to complete mandatory training and develop new skills.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills
- Previous experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Previous experience delivering excellent customer service.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
