Job Purpose: To support registered nursing staff in delivering safe, high-quality care to patients on Trauma and Orthopaedic wards, helping with daily living activities and basic clinical tasks.
Duties:
- Support patients with personal care, hygiene, nutrition, mobility and comfort.
- Monitor, record and report basic observations such as blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
- Assist with moving and handling using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Support patients with meals, fluid intake and nutritional screening.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Assist registered staff with simple clinical procedures following training and instruction.
- Keep accurate written records, ensuring they are checked and countersigned as required.
- Follow hospital policies on infection control, health and safety and safeguarding.
- Work as part of the multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues.
- Help maintain a clean, safe and well-stocked ward environment.
Essential Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with patients and staff.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from registered practitioners.
- Ability to work as part of a team and show flexibility.
- Understanding of confidentiality and patient dignity.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Basic IT skills or willingness to develop them.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in a caring or healthcare role.
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or willingness to work towards it.
