Job Purpose: Support Registered Practitioners in delivering high-quality care to patients on the Acute Medical Ward. Work as part of a multi-professional team to assist with patient care, daily living activities, clinical observations, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment for patients and their families.
Duties
- Assist patients with personal care, washing, dressing, oral hygiene, toileting, and nutrition.
- Support patients with mobility and moving and handling activities.
- Monitor, record, and report basic observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, and oxygen levels.
- Measure and record fluid intake and output.
- Collect urine samples, carry out urinalysis tests, and report findings.
- Remove urinary catheters and undertake agreed clinical procedures following appropriate training.
- Assist with wound care, dressings, and application of non-prescription creams and ointments.
- Carry out weight, height, BMI, and nutritional assessments following training.
- Escort patients safely to appointments and other hospital departments.
- Maintain accurate patient records and participate in patient handovers.
- Support the emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Assist with stock control, equipment cleaning, storage, and maintenance.
- Support new Health Care Assistants during induction and orientation when required.
- Participate in audits, quality initiatives, and ward developments.
- Follow infection control, confidentiality, safeguarding, health and safety, and hospital policies at all times.
