Grounds Staff - Curraghs Wildlife Park - DOEF-025466

Job Purpose: Help keep the Curraghs Wildlife Park grounds clean, tidy and well maintained, creating a pleasant and safe environment for visitors and animals. You will carry out general grounds and gardening work, maintain animal enclosures and help with other practical jobs around the park.  

Duties  
- Mow grassed areas, strim, hedge trim and carry out general grounds maintenance.
- Rake sand pits daily and keep public areas tidy.
- Empty bins and keep the park and car park free from litter.
- Use and carry out daily maintenance on hand tools, power tools and other equipment.
- Operate tractor-mounted equipment where appropriately trained.
- Install, repair and maintain fencing.
- Assist keepers with maintaining animal enclosures.
- Carry out general labouring duties when required.
- Help keep the working environment safe and clean.
- Follow all relevant health and safety guidance.
- Help the team respond to emergency situations when required.
- Assist with car park duties when required.
- Work occasional weekends, which are paid at an enhanced rate.
- Work overtime in unforeseen or urgent circumstances when requested.

Essential Skills  
- Experience carrying out general gardening or landscaping work.
- Experience with the daily maintenance of garden or mechanical equipment.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow health and safety guidelines and rules.
- Understanding of the importance of keeping a safe, clear and tidy working environment.
- Positive and reliable approach to work.
- Ability to make sensible decisions and adapt to change.
- Flexible approach to working hours and duties.
- Full, valid car driving licence.
- Physically able to carry out the role, including carrying 20kg unaided.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills  
- Recognised training or qualifications in forestry, countryside management or a related subject, such as NVQ or NPTC.
- Experience using motorised power tools.
- Experience operating small tractors or similar equipment.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with colleagues and members of the public.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
