General Kitchen Assistant - Ballakermeen High School - DOES-024254

Job Purpose: Support the school kitchen team in delivering a busy catering service by helping with food prep, serving meals, handling payments and keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean and safe.  

Duties  
- Help prepare food, including simple cooking tasks as directed
- Serve meals and support students in making food choices
- Set up counters, take orders and use the till system
- Keep dining areas clean and organised during and after service
- Wash dishes, utensils and catering equipment (by hand or machine)
- Clean kitchen equipment and surfaces to high standards
- Carry out general cleaning including floors, tables and furniture
- Follow health & safety and food hygiene rules at all times
- Wear uniform and report any faults or issues to supervisors
- Help with stock control, checking deliveries and storing items correctly
- Support the wider school team and attend training when needed

Essential Skills  
- Experience in customer service or cleaning roles
- Friendly and positive attitude
- Ability to work well in a team
- Able to stay calm in a busy environment
- Good communication with students and staff
- Able to follow instructions and procedures
- Organised and reliable
- Able to work to set times and routines
- Willing to learn how to use a till system
- Physically able to carry out kitchen and cleaning tasks

Desirable skills  
- Experience in catering or food preparation
- Food hygiene, first aid or catering qualifications
- Experience using catering equipment
- Understanding of health & safety in a kitchen environment
- Flexibility to support occasional extra events or hours
