Job Purpose: To support the Catering Manager and Cook Supervisor in delivering a safe, efficient and friendly school catering service, including food preparation, serving meals, customer service, cash handling and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.  

The Duties  
- Assist with basic food preparation, simple cooking and serving snacks and main meals.
- Provide friendly customer service to pupils and staff, encouraging pupils to try a variety of foods.
- Set up service counters, take food orders, operate tills and handle cash accurately.
- Monitor entry to the dining room in line with school policy.
- Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, crockery and dining areas, including deep cleaning when required.
- Carry out washing up by hand or machine and clean catering equipment such as coffee and vending machines.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, food hygiene and personal hygiene at all times.
- Report faulty equipment or safety concerns to a senior colleague.
- Assist with stock control, stock rotation and putting deliveries away safely.
- Work flexibly as part of a team and undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

Essential Skills
- Basic experience or understanding of food handling and preparation.
- Awareness of health and safety and food hygiene requirements.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
- Ability to clean to a high standard within set timescales.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.

Desirable skills
- Experience of customer service in a catering or similar environment.
- Experience of cleaning in a catering environment.
- Ability to use or learn computerised tills.
- Catering, food hygiene or first aid qualification.
- Positive attitude, organised approach and willingness to undertake training.
