Job Purpose: Join the Canteen team at Ballakermeen High School, helping to provide daily catering services for around 1,500 students plus staff. You will help with food preparation and service, customer service, cleaning and keeping the kitchen and dining areas safe and tidy.
Duties:
- Prepare snacks and main meals, including simple cooking tasks
- Serve meals and encourage students to try a variety of foods
- Prepare service counters, process food orders and operate the till
- Keep the kitchen, dining areas and catering equipment clean
- Wash kitchen utensils, equipment and crockery
- Help with deliveries, stock control, stock rotation and putting food away
- Maintain good food handling, hygiene and health and safety standards
- Follow school safeguarding, confidentiality and safety procedures
- Work as part of the Canteen team and help with other appropriate duties when required
Essential Skills:
- Previous customer service experience and experience of cleaning to a high standard
- Enthusiastic, positive and able to work well as part of a team
- Calm and able to work under pressure in a busy environment
- Confident communicating with students and staff
- Able to follow instructions and use your own initiative when required
- Organised, efficient and methodical
- Understanding of the importance of health and safety
- Experience of working to deadlines and fixed timescales
- Able to learn how to use a computerised till – training will be provided
- Flexible and willing to work additional hours occasionally by prior agreement
- Physically able to carry out the role, including bending, lifting, cleaning and moving around the kitchen
- Able to meet the normal working hours
- Able to obtain a satisfactory police check
Desirable Skills:
- Previous catering, food handling or food preparation experience
- Catering, First Aid or Food Hygiene qualifications
- Experience using catering equipment
- Isle of Man worker status
