Job Purpose: The Facilities Officer supports the day-to-day running of Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital. The role helps both clinical and non-clinical teams by managing deliveries, hospital stores, transport services and site facilities. You will help make sure equipment, supplies and important items are moved safely and efficiently around the hospital and to other government sites.
Duties
- Collect and transport medicines, medical records, specimens, equipment, mail and other items between hospitals, departments and government sites.
- Ensure all transported items, including controlled drugs and cash, are handled safely and securely.
- Maintain and check the courier vehicle, reporting any issues and keeping it clean and secure.
- Keep accurate records such as mileage sheets and fuel logs.
- Work with medical engineering teams to transport and return equipment for repair.
- Manage hospital stores including clinical, domestic and janitorial supplies.
- Monitor stock levels, rotate stock and arrange new orders when needed.
- Receive deliveries and distribute supplies across the hospital.
- Provide staff with advice on available products, stock levels and ordering processes.
- Maintain COSHH records and safety information for relevant products.
- Support the hospital mortuary by keeping the area clean, secure and operating correctly.
- Record equipment checks and report faults using the hospital reporting system.
- Assist with the safe transfer and preparation of bodies for viewing when required.
- Work with police, medical staff and funeral directors when access to the mortuary is required.
- Deliver items such as medical supplies, notes and equipment around hospital departments.
- Support the safe handling and storage of medical gas cylinders and other equipment.
- Assist with waste management and ensure clinical waste is collected correctly.
- Help with general site duties including security checks and responding to operational requests.
Essential Skills
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable handling a variety of tasks in a busy environment.
- Basic IT skills to use ordering and record systems.
- Good communication skills when working with different hospital teams.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain confidentiality.
- Full driving licence and confidence driving between locations.
Desirable skills
- Experience working in a hospital, healthcare or facilities environment.
- Knowledge of stock control, logistics or stores management.
- Experience handling deliveries or courier services.
- Awareness of health and safety procedures such as COSHH.
