Job Purpose: Support the Police, Fire and Ambulance services by answering emergency calls and dispatching the right resources. You will be a vital first point of contact for people in emergencies, gathering information quickly, providing potentially life-saving advice and helping co-ordinate emergency responses across the Island.  

Duties:  
- Answer emergency calls for the Police, Fire and Ambulance services.
- Quickly assess calls to identify risks and potentially life-threatening situations.
- Ask appropriate questions to gather accurate information from callers.
- Provide advice and reassurance, including potentially life-saving instructions before emergency crews arrive.
- Dispatch Police, Fire and Ambulance resources to incidents.
- Monitor emergency crews and resources to help keep responders safe.
- Prioritise resources and make decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Use radio systems to communicate with emergency crews.
- Manage Ambulance resources, including vehicle movements and staff availability.
- Deal with non-emergency requests for Ambulance transport from healthcare providers.
- Share important and time-critical information with emergency services and other agencies.
- Help co-ordinate communications during major or multi-agency incidents.
- Use specialist computer, dispatch, telephone, radio and triage systems.
- Maintain accurate records while dealing with incidents.
- Follow data protection, quality assurance, health and safety and operational procedures.
- Keep required Emergency Medical Dispatcher and Emergency Fire Dispatcher qualifications up to date.
- Complete mandatory training and ongoing development.
- Contribute to incident reviews and improvements to procedures and services.
- Work shifts including nights, weekends and public holidays to provide a 24/7 service.

Essential Skills:  
- Must pass the ESJCR Operators Assessment Centre.
- Fast and accurate keyboard skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly obtain important information from callers.
- Ability to provide clear advice and reassurance.
- Ability to communicate information quickly and accurately when under pressure.
- Good written communication skills with the ability to record clear, accurate and complete information.
- Ability to prioritise work and follow established procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Calm and resilient when dealing with pressure and stressful situations.
- Reliable approach to work.
- Able to work a 24/7 shift rota.
- Satisfactory Counter Terrorism Check.

Desirable Skills:  
- Experience working with members of the public and providing advice or assistance in person or by telephone.
- Experience dealing with people in stressful situations.
- Experience using Windows-based computer systems and databases.
- Isle of Man Worker status.

This role is a limited term appointment for 18 months.

£31,715 - £38,255 plus 30% uplift for weekends
