Electro-Bio Medical Engineering (EBME) Assistant - DOI-025447

Job Purpose: Work as part of the Electro Bio-Medical Engineering (EBME) team, helping to inspect, service, repair and maintain a wide range of medical equipment. You will receive ongoing technical training, with the opportunity to progress from EBME Assistant to Technician and Senior Technician.  

Duties  
- Assist with basic inspections, repairs and functional testing of medical equipment.
- Carry out electrical safety tests and basic performance checks under the direction of senior technicians.
- Work on equipment including patient beds, pressure-relieving devices, oxygen and suction equipment, wheelchairs and respiratory equipment.
- Complete required testing and maintain accurate service and maintenance records.
- Help install, repair and maintain other equipment when required.
- Assist with maintaining an up-to-date inventory of medical equipment.
- Help ensure equipment is serviced and maintained safely and efficiently.
- Report defects, hazards and equipment problems to senior technicians or supervisors.
- Complete basic service reports, performance checks and acceptance testing for new equipment.
- Provide basic advice to users about the operation and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Work alongside in-house staff, contractors and other trades.
- Maintain good working relationships with medical staff and other users.
- Follow relevant standards, regulations, health and safety requirements and procedures.
- Assist with maintenance contracts and computer-based equipment records when required.
- Undertake ongoing technical and vocational training, which may include off-Island travel.
- Once trained, take part in the on-call rota when required, with senior staff support available.
- Work limited overtime when required by the service.

Desirable Skills  
- Five GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, or a recognised electrical/electronic engineering trade qualification and registration as an electrical tradesperson.
- Electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance skills.
- Experience in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering maintenance.
- Experience repairing and maintaining equipment independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of fault-finding equipment and techniques.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and health and safety.
- Experience working with quality assurance systems or medical equipment standards.
- Good Microsoft Office and Windows skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with people at different levels.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
