Job Purpose: Support a child in Reception and Year 1 at Sulby Primary School, helping them access learning, build confidence, reduce anxiety and develop independence. This contract is linked to funding, with an anticipated end date of 31 August 2027.
Duties:
- Support children in the classroom, individually and in small groups.
- Work with teachers to deliver learning activities tailored to each child’s needs.
- Help develop and carry out individual learning and behaviour support plans.
- Encourage confidence, positive behaviour and independence.
- Help assess learning needs, keep accurate records and report progress to teachers.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and school staff.
- Supervise pupils on school visits and activities when required.
- Follow safeguarding, confidentiality and health and safety procedures.
Essential Skills:
- GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above, or the specified Level 2 Key Skills or Functional Skills equivalents.
- Experience supporting and extending children’s learning in Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.
- Experience working with pupils and parents to overcome barriers to learning.
- Understanding of how children learn and how to reduce stress within their learning.
- Ability to help assess pupils’ learning and give constructive feedback.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Basic IT skills, including word processing and email.
- A flexible, inclusive approach, with the ability to work in a team, use initiative and remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to review and adapt your approach to supporting pupils.
- Physically able to carry out the role and satisfactory enhanced police check with barring.
Desirable Skills:
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2, an equivalent qualification or a relevant higher-level qualification.
- Relevant professional development, first aid or medical needs training.
- Experience supporting pupils with anxiety or neurodiversity.
- Understanding of neurodiversity and its impact on learning.
- Experience adapting teaching approaches to help pupils achieve their potential.
- Experience carrying out assessment programmes.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
