Job Purpose: Support pupils at Sulby School, initially working with a pupil with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will help pupils access learning, take part fully in school life and develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Duties
- Support pupils to access learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and provide support based on their individual needs.
- Support pupils with additional educational, behavioural, emotional, physical or communication needs.
- Encourage inclusion, confidence, independence, resilience and positive relationships.
- Support pupils' social, emotional and mental health needs and report any concerns.
- Help develop and follow Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Plans and Personal Care Programmes where appropriate.
- Deliver agreed intervention programmes to support pupils' learning.
- Assist with personal care and medical needs where required.
- Support pupils during lessons, educational visits, breaktimes and other school activities.
- Help teachers plan and prepare learning activities and resources.
- Support positive behaviour and help pupils take responsibility for their learning and behaviour.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Carry out routine marking and assessment activities as directed by the teacher.
- Help pupils develop literacy, numeracy, communication and ICT skills.
- Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and participate fully in classroom activities.
- Maintain learning materials, specialist resources and equipment.
- Build positive and professional relationships with parents and carers.
- Work with colleagues and other professionals to support pupils' learning and wellbeing.
- Provide routine administrative support including photocopying, filing and preparing resources.
- Attend relevant meetings, training and development activities.
- Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and health and safety procedures.
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience working in a school or other educational setting.
- Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.
- Ability to build effective relationships with pupils and adults.
- Understanding of the individual needs of pupils.
- Ability to adapt and provide support to meet individual needs.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Good active listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and be flexible.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Knowledge of safeguarding requirements.
- Enjoyment of working with children.

- Isle of Man Worker status.
