Job Purpose: Support pupils across the EYFS and primary phase by helping them access learning, develop confidence and independence, and achieve their full potential. Work closely with teachers to provide learning, personal care and classroom support while creating a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
Duties
- Support pupils, including those with additional educational needs, to access learning safely.
- Promote inclusion and encourage all pupils to participate in school life.
- Assist with the implementation of Individual Education, Behaviour and Personal Care Plans.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model.
- Encourage confidence, independence and self-esteem.
- Support pupils' personal care needs where required.
- Deliver intervention programmes to support and accelerate learning.
- Assist teachers with lesson planning, classroom activities and learning resources.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Promote positive behaviour and help pupils take responsibility for their actions.
- Administer routine tests and undertake routine marking.
- Provide general administrative support including photocopying, typing and filing.
- Support literacy, numeracy and other learning programmes.
- Help pupils develop confidence using ICT and learning resources.
- Supervise pupils during breaks, lunchtime, educational visits and school trips.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and child protection procedures at all times.
Essential Skills
- Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional development.
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience working with children or young people of the relevant age.
- Ability to support all pupils, including attending to personal care needs.
- Ability to contribute to assessing pupils' progress and attainment.
- Ability to assist with planning and delivering engaging learning experiences.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with pupils and act as a role model.
- Ability to provide information and guidance to support pupils' learning and behaviour.
- Experience working with groups of children to achieve specific learning objectives.
- Understanding of the National Curriculum, child development and learning processes.
- Understanding of assessment procedures and support for children with Additional Educational Needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to relate well to children and adults.
- Warm, approachable and enthusiastic manner.
- Calm, nurturing approach and commitment to professional development.
- Positive contribution to school life.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- First Aid training.
- Team Teach training.
- Experience supporting pupils with additional educational needs using programmes such as Precision Teach, Numicon and Speech & Language Link.
- Experience supporting children with emotional and behavioural needs.
- Ability to plan effective support for pupils at risk of underachieving.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
