Job Purpose: Support students with additional and complex learning needs to access education and achieve their potential. You will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to provide support for students with needs such as speech, language and communication difficulties and social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Duties
- Support students in lessons and around school to help them take part in learning activities
- Build positive relationships with students and encourage confidence and independence
- Help adapt learning activities to meet individual student needs
- Assist teachers with classroom activities, resources and student progress records
- Support students with behaviour, wellbeing and social development
- Encourage inclusion and equal opportunities for all students
- Help supervise students during breaks, trips and school activities
- Use ICT and learning resources to support learning
- Assist with exams, coursework and classroom administration tasks
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety and confidentiality procedures at all times
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
- Experience working with secondary school age children or young people
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- Ability to support students with different learning needs
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- Positive, caring and approachable attitude
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise work
- Willingness to take part in school life and ongoing training
Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant or relevant childcare qualification
- Experience supporting vulnerable students
- First Aid training
- Knowledge of literacy or learning support strategies
- Experience using ICT to support learning
- Understanding of exam access arrangements and assessment methods
- Knowledge of vocational programmes such as ASDAN or AQA awards
- Isle of Man Worker status
