Job Purpose: Support learners with moderate, severe and complex needs within the Specialist Provision Centre, helping them access learning, develop independence and achieve their full potential in a safe and inclusive environment.  

Duties  
- Support learners with learning, social, emotional, behavioural, physical and sensory needs.
- Assist learners in accessing classroom activities and the wider school curriculum.
- Provide personal care, hygiene and medical support where required following appropriate training.
- Encourage learners to develop independence, confidence and life skills.
- Support the implementation of individual education, behaviour and support plans.
- Promote positive behaviour and help learners make positive choices.
- Monitor and record learner progress, achievements and wellbeing.
- Work closely with teachers, the SPC Manager, parents and other professionals.
- Support learners during educational visits, enrichment activities and off-site learning.
- Assist with preparing learning resources, displays and specialist equipment.
- Provide administrative support including photocopying, filing and maintaining records.
- Attend training, meetings and development activities as required.

Essential Skills
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at Level 2.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Ability to support learners with moderate, severe and complex needs.
- Ability to build positive relationships with learners, staff and families.
- Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to learner support plans.
- Ability to support distressed learners appropriately.
- Understanding of strategies to engage learners and remove barriers to learning.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- Ability to use initiative and adapt to changing situations.
- Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and equal opportunities.
- Warm, patient and empathetic approach.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.

Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
- Experience supporting children with personal care and medical needs.
- Experience working with learners with autism or communication difficulties.
- Understanding of support services available to children and young people.
- Ability to motivate learners and promote self-esteem.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
