Job Purpose: To support young people with additional needs in a school setting, helping them learn, grow in confidence and feel safe, included and supported as part of everyday school life.
The Duties
- Support learners with a range of needs including learning, physical, emotional and behavioural needs.
- Help young people take part in lessons and school activities as independently as possible.
- Provide personal care and health support where needed, following training and guidance.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and good social skills.
- Support individual learning and behaviour plans set by teachers and the SPC Manager.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with learners and act as a positive role model.
- Help prepare learning activities, resources and specialist equipment.
- Support learners during transitions, trips and offsite activities.
- Keep records and share feedback on learner progress with staff.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety and confidentiality rules at all times.
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent Level 2 qualification.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- A caring, patient and supportive approach.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Good communication skills with young people and adults.
- Commitment to inclusion, equality and safeguarding.
Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant or childcare qualification at Level 2 or above.
- Experience supporting young people with additional or complex needs.
- Experience with personal care or medical support.
- Experience supporting learners with autism or behavioural challenges.
