Job Purpose: Work as part of the Specialist Provision Centre (SPC) team to support learners with moderate, severe and complex needs. You will help pupils access learning, encourage independence, provide personal and medical care where trained, and create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.
Duties
- Support learners with a range of learning, physical, sensory, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
- Help pupils take part in learning activities as independently as possible.
- Provide personal care, hygiene support and life skills assistance where required.
- Carry out agreed medical care duties following appropriate training and competency assessments.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and self-esteem.
- Build positive relationships with learners, parents, carers and colleagues.
- Assist with individual education, behaviour and support plans.
- Support learners during classroom activities, around the school and on off-site visits.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and the SPC Manager.
- Prepare learning resources and maintain an organised learning environment.
- Support the use of ICT and specialist equipment in learning activities.
- Work with teachers and other professionals to deliver targeted interventions.
- Provide general administrative support such as photocopying and filing.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures.
- Attend meetings, training and professional development activities.
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent Level 2 qualification).
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Ability to support learners with complex learning needs.
- Ability to contribute to education, behaviour and support plans.
- Ability to provide appropriate support for distressed learners.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to use your own initiative.
- Caring, approachable and empathetic attitude.
- Commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities.

- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting children with personal care and medical needs.
- Experience working with autistic learners or those with significant communication or behavioural challenges.
- Ability to motivate learners and reinforce positive behaviour.
- Knowledge of support services available for children and young people.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
