Job Purpose: Support learners with moderate, severe, and complex needs within the Specialist Provision Centre (SPC) at Peel Clothworkers School. Help learners access education, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals while providing learning, personal care, and medical support as part of the school team.
Duties
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all learners.
- Support learners to access learning activities as independently as possible.
- Attend to learners’ personal, health, hygiene, and life skills needs.
- Encourage learners to interact with others and participate in activities.
- Assist with the development and implementation of individual education, behaviour, support, and mentoring plans.
- Support learners with special educational needs in the SPC, wider school environment, and on offsite visits.
- Act as a positive role model and build productive relationships with learners.
- Support learners through transitions and reintegration following absence.
- Encourage confidence, self-esteem, achievement, and positive behaviour.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback on learning, attendance, and behaviour.
- Support enrichment and extra-curricular activities.
- Following appropriate training, undertake agreed medical support duties and competencies.
- Assist teachers and the SPC Manager in creating a positive learning environment.
- Support learning activities, maintain resources, and assist with planning.
- Provide administrative support including filing, photocopying, and coursework administration.
- Work with other professionals and agencies to support learners.
- Attend meetings, training, and professional development activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection procedures at all times.
Essential Skills
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Ability to support learners with moderate, severe, and profound multiple learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with learners and staff.
- Ability to contribute to assessment, planning, and learner target setting.
- Ability to assist with education, behaviour, support, care plans, and risk assessments.
- Ability to provide appropriate support for distressed learners.
- Knowledge of strategies to engage learners with complex needs and remove barriers to learning.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to equality, inclusion, and safeguarding.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to use initiative.
- Warm, approachable, and empathetic manner.

Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting children's personal care, health, and hygiene needs.
- Ability to support children and young people in making choices about learning and behaviour.
- Understanding of support services available to children and young people.
- Ability to challenge and motivate learners and promote self-esteem.
- Experience working with learners on the autistic spectrum who have significant communication and behavioural challenges.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
