Job Purpose: To support young people with moderate, severe and complex needs in the Specialist Provision Centre (SPC) at Castle Rushen High School, helping them access learning, develop independence and feel included in school life.  

Duties
- Support learners with social, emotional, behavioural, physical, sensory and learning needs.
- Promote inclusion and help pupils take part in lessons and activities as independently as possible.
- Provide personal care and support social, health, hygiene and life skills development.
- Support and help deliver Individual Education, Behaviour and Support Plans.
- Encourage positive behaviour and build pupils’ confidence and self-esteem.
- Monitor progress and give clear feedback to teachers.
- Assist with planning learning activities and adapting tasks to meet individual needs.
- Support pupils during offsite visits and activities.
- Work with teachers, parents/carers and other professionals to support pupil progress.
- Complete required training including safeguarding, first aid, Team Teach, Signalong and medical competencies such as peg feeding, suction and administering medication where required.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, data protection and child protection procedures at all times.

Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade A*–C (9–4) or Level 2 equivalent, plus experience working with children or young people.
- Ability to support pupils with moderate, severe and complex learning difficulties.
- Confident building positive relationships and acting as a role model.
- Good understanding of strategies to engage young people with complex needs and remove barriers to learning.
- Able to work well as part of a team and understand classroom roles.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organised and able to prioritise workload.
- Committed to inclusion, safeguarding and equal opportunities.
- Physically able to meet the demands of the role and pass pre-employment and police checks.

Desirable skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or relevant qualification.
- Experience supporting personal care and completing medical competencies.
- Experience working with young people on the autistic spectrum or with significant communication and behavioural needs.
- Understanding of curriculum areas in a primary or secondary setting.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
