Job Purpose: Support learners with moderate, severe and complex needs within the Specialist Provision Centre (SPC), helping them access learning, develop independence and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers and the SPC Manager, you will provide educational, personal and medical support in the classroom, around the school and during off-site activities.  

Duties  
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all learners.
- Support learners with complex needs to access learning as independently as possible.
- Assist with learners' personal care, health, hygiene and life skills development.
- Encourage learners to participate in activities and interact with others.
- Help develop and implement Individual Education, Behaviour, Support and Mentoring Plans.
- Support learners within the SPC, the wider school and during off-site visits.
- Build positive relationships with learners and act as a role model.
- Support learners during transitions and reintegration into school.
- Encourage confidence, independence and positive self-esteem.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback on learning, behaviour and attendance.
- Carry out agreed medical procedures, following training and competency assessments, including administering medication, PEG feeding, suction and catheterisation where required.
- Assist teachers with planning learning activities and preparing resources.
- Support the use of ICT and specialist equipment to meet learners' needs.
- Work with other professionals and agencies to support individual learners.
- Provide general administrative support, including photocopying, filing and coursework administration.
- Accompany learners on educational visits and off-site activities.
- Attend meetings, training and professional development activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures at all times.

Essential Skills
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Ability to support learners with moderate, severe and profound learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Ability to build positive relationships with learners and colleagues.
- Ability to contribute to assessments, curriculum planning and individual education plans.
- Ability to assist with education, behaviour, support, care plans and risk assessments.
- Ability to support distressed learners.
- Knowledge of strategies to engage learners with complex needs and remove barriers to learning.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to equality and inclusion.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to use your own initiative.
- Warm, approachable and empathetic manner.
- Reflective and enthusiastic approach.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting children's personal care and medical needs.
- Ability to help learners make positive choices about learning and behaviour.
- Understanding of available support services for children and young people.
- Experience motivating learners and promoting self-esteem.
- Experience working with autistic learners who have significant communication and behavioural challenges.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
