Job Purpose: Support students with moderate, severe, and complex needs within the Specialist Provision Centre (SPC) at St Ninian’s High School. You will help learners access education, develop life skills, build confidence, and take part in school activities in a safe and supportive environment.
Duties
- Support students with learning, communication, behavioural, physical, sensory, and emotional needs.
- Help learners take part in classroom activities and school life as independently as possible.
- Support students with personal care, health, hygiene, and medical needs following training.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and social interaction.
- Assist with Individual Education, Behaviour, and Support Plans.
- Work closely with teachers, the SPC Manager, parents/carers, and other professionals.
- Support students during trips, activities, and offsite visits.
- Help prepare learning resources and classroom displays.
- Monitor and record student progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Promote equality, inclusion, safeguarding, and learner wellbeing at all times.
- Attend training sessions, meetings, and professional development activities.
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Ability to support learners with complex learning needs and disabilities.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- Ability to support learning activities and behaviour management.
- Organised and able to prioritise tasks.
- Flexible, reliable, and positive attitude.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
- Physically able to carry out the role and complete a police check.
Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification or similar.
- Experience supporting personal care and medical needs.
- Experience working with autistic learners or students with behavioural challenges.
- Understanding of support services available for young people.
- Ability to motivate and encourage learners.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
